Our Story

A Historic Gem in the Heart of Wimborne

Located in the scenic Corn Market, The White Hart proudly stands as one of the oldest and most historically rich establishments in Wimborne. With a legacy stretching back to 1648, our building has seen many transformative events, each of which has contributed to the unique charm and allure that our guests experience today.

The White Hart began its story as a stable for the Wimborne Minster. In the days of yore, the echoing hooves and the resonating bells of the Minster converged to paint a vivid picture of life in 17th-century Wimborne.

As times changed, so did the purpose of our building. Transitioning from stables, it became a holding place for the local constabulary as they awaited the renowned Assizes. This significant court played an essential role in the English and Welsh judicial system, ensuring justice was administered fairly across both civil and criminal matters. However, with the advent of the High Court in 1972, the duties of the Assizes transformed, marking another chapter in our storied history.

Our cellar has a past as intriguing as the pub itself. Initially serving as an abattoir for local pig farmers, its walls have borne witness to the bustling trade activities of the region. By the 1980s, echoing laughter replaced the sounds of commerce as it transformed into a lively games room. Today, the cellar retains its historic integrity while serving guests with the finest beverages.

Our facade, boasting regency windows and an architectural design distinct from its neighbors, was a tasteful addition in 1798. The subtle height difference between The White Hart and surrounding structures tells tales of evolving architectural trends and the passage of time.
